Across The Universe: The Beatles arrive in America
The Beatles arrived in the United States during the 1960s when America was ready for a change. The Group brought with them a revolutionary style that caused a cultural reaction in music & fashion among young adults across the country. The Beatles created a new standard of music that was difficult for other musicians to live up to. They were the first to have a full album without just one hit single and the rest being filler songs. Their albums were personally written by Lennon and McCartney, rather than an outside ghostwriter (Pendergrast). Soon after they started producing music in America, their album covers replicated the artistic stylings of the music within the folds. The Beatles changed the sound of Rock n' Roll by creating a new, original sound that no one had ever heard. "I Saw Her Standing There" was a revelation, a rousing, energetic rocker teeming with hormonal energy (Pendergrast). The Beatles famous "She Loves You" was a simple song, yet The Beatles made it work and pulled it off. The Beatles were not afraid to stand out and do what without them, wouldn't have been popular. In 1966 "The Beatles were declared the most successful group in the history of pop music." (Roberts 15).
