Here, There, and Everywhere:
The band's Germany tour begins
Their tour in Germany in 1960 seemed to mature the band in a way that allowed them to prepare themselves for their journey to America and a revolutionary new sound.
"I grew up in hamburg, not liverpool (Lennon)". "It was Hamburg that did it. That's where we really developed. To get the Germans going and keep it up for the twelve hours at a time we really had to hammer. We would have never developed as much if we'd stayed at home. We had to try anything that came into our heads in Hamburg there was nobody to copy from. We played what we lied best and the Germans liked it as long as it was loud (John)". "In Liverpool we just used to do out best numbers, the same ones at every gig, in hamburg we would play for eight hours, so we really had to find new way of playing (Lennon)". With their newly adopted name, they set off for the tour that really jump started their musical careers. This was there first big chance with more than their own local exposure at the typical clubs in the Liverpool scene. |
